latest fashion trends this year
We all know about some of the crazy fashion trends that have come about over the years, whether that be giant hair and spandex in the 80s, denim and plaid in the 90s or even the most recent trend of leggings. Then of course you have the staples, things that have always worked and will likely continue to, such as a well-fitted blazer or naturally glowing skin. That said, no matter what decade or year you live in, trends constantly seem to resurface, and this year was no exception. Here are some of the most popular trends — do your favorites make the list?
First appearing in fashion in the early 19th century — when Queen Alexandra of Denmark attempted to hide a scar on her neck — chokers have since come and gone from popular fashion a number of times. Making a large reappearance in the 1920’s, 1970’s and 1990’s, most notably with Princess Diana and more recently Jennifer Lawrence (just to name a few), Chokers are now back and more popular than ever.
Originally a sign of scandal, wealth or power, bold lips have made a comeback in a huge way this year. Ranging in colors from bright reds to deep browns people just can’t get enough of lips that stand out and make a statement. In fact, many people went to extreme lengths to achieve this bold and full look. So much so that what is being called the “Kylie Jenner lip look” has become a major trend among all age groups.
Popularized by Twiggy with her noticeably long lashes in the 60s, long lashes have been considered a sign of beauty and femininity for years. That said, they too have made a come back this year. While other decades have shown that long think lashes look great with bold makeup, this year is all about bold lashes and subtle everything else. Enhancing your eyes and making them look larger than life, adding a pair of feathery, natural looking lashes over your own — while keeping the rest of your look clean and simple — can really help to put the signature to your look.
Rachel Green first shocked the world in the hit television series Friends, with her signature hair cut “the Rachel” and a gorgeous bronde color. Now, here it is in 2016 and Jennifer Aniston is still rocking that bronde look that 1000s lined up to get at the salon over 20 years ago and again in 2017. A few other celebrities rocking the bronde; Beyonce, Jennifer Lopez and Sarah Hyland.
Once considered a signature staple in your Mom’s closet but never something to be worn by the fashionable and chic, loafers have finally got their day in the sun, being one of the most popular fashion forward shoes. Led by the feminist icon and always fashionable Emma Watson, loafers are no longer just practical, but rather stylish, sophisticated and professional. Additionally, loafers can be worn to work, out for a Saturday stroll or even while giving a speech to the UN.
